How can I find out about what's going on with the Bike Kitchen?
- Join our news mailing list! Fill out the "E-News Sign Up" Box on the right hand side of this page to join. We also update our Facebook often with upcoming events, clinics, bikes we have, and much more.
Where can I find the Bike Kitchen?
- We are in downtown SLO! 860 Pacific St, Suite 105, San Luis Obispo. Wednesdays & Thursdays 4:00 - 7:00 pm, Sundays 12:00 - 4:00 pm. Day use donation is $5 ($4 for Coalition members!)
How do you staff the Kitchen?
- Our amazing volunteers! The Kitchen is almost entirely volunteer-run, if you are interested in getting involved, check out the volunteer page. We have plenty of ways you can help support our program, tons of bike knowledge is a plus, but not necessary to be involved.
What parts do you accept for donation?
- We accept any parts which are either working or broken. We do not accept parts from “department
store” bikes though (Next, Roadmaster, modern Free Spirit). “Old” does
not mean we don’t want something though - it’s about quality, not age.
- Also
accepted are tubes which may need to be patched or tires which still
have some life.
- Tools are always welcome!
What kind of bikes to you have?
- We are constantly getting new bikes and parts in, feel free to stop by and check out what we have in now. Otherwise you can check out some of what we have on our facebook page here.
Do you accept complete bicycles?
- Yes, we accept bicycles and will either repair them or use them for
spare parts. We do not accept “department
store” bikes though (Next, Roadmaster, modern Free Spirits).
Why don't you accept these "department store" bikes?
- These bicycles are often constructed with very low quality parts and
non-standard sizes. Because of the limited durability and
compatibility, we are not able to deal with the overhead in processing these
bikes or parts.
What do you sell at the Kitchen?
- Not much right now. At present we try to supply tires and patched
tubes, as well as used components. Those are available on a donation
basis. A limited supply of cables, housing and other tidbits will be
available at market price. Users are encouraged to stop by a local bike shop
to get any new parts you might need before arriving at the kitchen.
What parts do you have available?
- We have brake cables, shifter cables, housing and
accessories for both - these are offered for use at the Kitchen only (no to-go sales). All other parts in the shop are used and can be purchased
only by donation.
Do you have part ______?
- Maybe. We want to encourage people to use the kitchen as a place to
gather to work, socialize and share knowledge.
